The Used Equipment industry has been a growing subset of the bio/pharmaceutical manufacturing and engineering field for the past 10 years. The greatest advantage of buying used is “high quality equipment, readily available to be transported to your facility,” according to Adam Covitt, Vice President at Federal Equipment. This capability is unique to used equipment companies because of their ability to store these machines on a large show room floor. At Federal’s newest facility they have all their machines operationally ready for client demonstrations.
Having a relationship with a pharmaceutical manufacturer is a way for equipment re-sellers to curate new, barely used products. Federal’s partnership with Pfizer is a great example. They purchase equipment from the finest producers of process and packaging equipment available today and in turn stock Federal with these first-rate products.
Used equipment provides alternative, affordable, options for manufacturers. When looking to purchase or replace equipment this is a viable option, however, precautions must be taken to assure the source is credible. Covitt says that their ideal client is a Contract Manufacturing Organizations. “They need to build high-end labs for their clients fast, and that’s where we come in.” he added. Often CMOs accept clients without having all of the necessary equipment. They use re-sellers to find the high quality products that can be operational very quickly.
